There are different kinds of oats. For the rolled oats in this gluten-free recipe, make sure to go with gluten-free rolled oats, and not quick oats, or steel-cut oats. These are the gluten-free oats that I like to use: oats.
For dark chocolate chips, I always opt for pure cacao chips. They are a more pure form of chocolate, with less sugar, and no dairy. These are my favorite dark cacao chips: cacao chips.
When it comes to protein powder, there seem to be endless options. Recently I found a clean protein powder with minimal ingredients, and that makes me happy. If you are looking for a clean simple protein then check this one out: Truvani Protein.
Freeze-dried strawberries add the perfect amount of strawberry sweetness to these protein balls. They are made with one ingredient: strawberries! You can find them online here: freeze-dried strawberries.

How to Make Strawberry Protein Balls
First, combine the rolled oats and freeze-dried strawberries in a large bowl.
Next, add the protein powder.
Then add the peanut butter. I am using organic creamy peanut butter. You can probably also use crunchy, but no matter which type you use, try to get nut butter where the only ingredient is the nuts. Many peanut kinds of butter add extra oils and sugars. Always read the labels and look for one with only one ingredient.
Add the pure vanilla extract and the raw honey to the bowl,
Lastly, add the dark chocolate chips.
Stir the ingredients together to thoroughly combine. If the mixture is too dry and crumbly, add 1-2 Tbsp of water to make it easier to mix.
Then place the bowl into the refrigerator to cool for 30 minutes. If you don’t want to wait that long, you can also place them in the freezer for 10 minutes.
The reason for making the strawberry protein balls mixture cold is that the mixture is much easier to roll into balls when cold. If the mix is too warm it is more likely to stick to your hands and make a mess.

The Easiest Way to Roll Protein Balls
When the mix is cold enough remove it from the fridge/freezer to roll into balls. A small cookie scoop like this one: cookie scoop, makes it easy to ball the mix in even sizes.
Use the cookie scoop to measure the ball sizes and then use clean hands to form them into round balls.
Place all of the rolled strawberry protein bites on a sheet of parchment paper. This strawberry protein balls recipe makes about 23 energy balls.
