Retail and Manufacturing Executive Gary Zuckerman Passes

 

Furniture retail and manufacturing executive and consultant Gary Zuckerman passed away at seventy-seven on September 30, 2024.

He had a long, varied, successful career in the furniture industry, holding ownership and top managerial roles.

Most recently, Zuckerman and his partner Ken Salm founded 300 South Main, an international sourcing and manufacturer’s representative firm serving retailers, manufacturers and distributors in the residential and hospitality furnishings industry.

He was also an integral addition to the merchandising and design teams at Plank & Hide, a luxury brand of casual furniture serving retailers in multiple channels.

In 1966, his father, Sol Zuckerman, co-founded Foremost Furniture, a New York City-based retailer. In 1975, Gary joined the company and started his furniture career . In 1995, he became the head of the US division of Jaymar Furniture, a Canadian upholstery manufacturer.

Considered a leader in the New York home furnishings community, Zuckerman generously gave his time, wisdom and considerable talents to his industry. He served as President of the Greater New York Furnishings Association (GNYFA), a predecessor organization to the Greater Metropolitan Furnishings Association (GMFA). In 1994, he was presented with the Meadoff Award for Sportsmanship, recognizing his devotion to fair play and fair-mindedness, deep personal furniture industry relationships, social consciousness, and support for humane and philanthropic causes.

Before pursuing graduate studies in history and government, he studied pre-law and played varsity basketball at City College of New York.

His legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his son, Jeff (Pamela); his daughter, Allison (Adam); his grandchildren, Mila and Norah; and his brother, Eliot (Jann) Zuckerman. Gary’s relationship with each of them was a testament to his warmth and caring nature.
